eLearning and ePortfolios

Project Description

The so-called Bologna Process is to establish an European higher education area and will strengthen the mobility of lecturers and students by modular composition of the curriculum, support lifelong learning, and enhance the expertise and competence in cultural issues of all involved persons.

In addition to the quality and the accessibility of courses and lectures from any location, e-Learning can also amend and improve a university's services and administration, think of online information about universities, colleges and faculties, registration facilities, preliminary entry-level tests, online exams or virtual laboratories. Among general locational factors these are important criteria to gain the best graduates for a certain university and to qualify experts for tomorrow's research.

The rapid development of internet technology, the pace of the dissemination of the Word Wide Web, and keywords like web 2.0 have spurred the subject of eLearning. However, e-Learning can contribute significant changes and improvement, as soon as the currently available knowledge about learning and teaching will be transformed suitably into new media. Didactical case scenarios und examples for best practices can demonstrate which methods are suitable for which use cases; the blended learning approach can combine e-Learning with other educational resources.

By now, computer based teaching systems can complement traditional teaching methods. Here are some examples:

The Institute of Telematics is doing research and development in the realm of distributed learning platforms and supporting infrastructures. These works are based on the institute's knowledge about interoperable and web-based systems and portal-technologies. Moreover, the Institute for Telematics supports the enhancement of e-Learning infrastructure of the TU.
