Master's Thesis

A Comparative Performance Evaluation of the RPL Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks.

To enable the vision of the Internet of Things, several standardization efforts have been made over the last years. As one of those, RPL strives to be the standard protocol for routing on IPv6-level within severely resource- and bandwidth-constrained and lossy networks like wireless sensor networks.

The goal of this Master's Thesis is to identify suitable standard protocols serving similar purposes and compare their performance to that of the RPL protocol, as well as to point out strength and weaknesses and restrictions of the latter. The evaluation will be carried out with the OMNeT++ simulator.
